Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Proverbs 18

Finding security in life is important and there is contrast between resting in the name of the Lord which is strong tower (v10) and resting in wealthy which brings imaginary security (v11). Is your security in what you have and do, or is it in the Lord? Trust in Jesus who sticks closer than a brother (v24).

The importance f the tongue is highlighted here. A foolish person will want to give their opinion rather than listen (v2), or answer before they have heard the full story (v13). Listening well is an important skill and it is the wise who want to listen and learn (v15).

The words of a foolish person lead him or her into both strife (v6) and ruin (v7). We need Christ’s grace to control our words because of the impact on us and on others. Wise words can help a person have their needs met (v20). There is great power in our words, even the power of death and life (v21).

In the light of the power and influence of our words, take time to pray about your use of words. Are your words wise, gracious, loving and humble?
