Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Exodus 13
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
The Lord tells Moses of how the first born in Israel are to be consecrated to him (v1-2). Moses tells this to the people (v11-16) along with a reminder to keep the feast of unleavened bread (v3-10).
When they enter the Promised Land which would have such richness (v5) the Israelites are to deny themselves for seven days by eating unleavened bread a reminder of how God has delivered them from days of great hardship.
There is an important need to teach the future generations through this Feast of Unleavened Bread (v8-10). It is very easy for people to forget God’s goodness and this would be an annual reminder.
Also the consecration of the first born of all animals would be a more regular reminder of how the Lord delivered through the death of the first born sons of Egypt (v13-15).
Provision is made to redeem the first born donkeys and the first born sons through the sacrifice of a lamb (v13). This was pointing back to God great deliverance from Egypt but also pointing forward to God’s great deliverance in Jesus His firstborn. All scripture seeks to point us to faith in Jesus.
