Luke 24:50–53

The Ascension

50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51 While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple blessing God.

Jesus‘ final act before returning to heaven was to bless His disciples (v50). This is what Jesus’ life and ministry was all about and continues to be all about. Trust Jesus, He truly wants to bless you today.

Jesus then returns to glory (v51), His work on earth was complete. Jesus has returned to the Father’s side where He continues His ministry as He rules and intercedes for His people (see Ephesians 1 v20-23; Hebrews 4 v14-16).

After Jesus returned to glory the disciples’ initial response was to worship Jesus (v52). This happened as they had received a fresh vision of His greatness. We need to pray that as we study God’s Word and pray that we too will have a fresh vlsion of Christ’s greatness that will cause us to worship.

The disciples then returned to Jerusalem (v52-53) filled with joy and continuing to bless God. This return to Jerusalem was in obedience to Jesus’s command (v48-49). Their response to see Christ’s greatness was service and worship. We too need to pray that we too will be dominated by service and worship in response to encountering Jesus daily.
