Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Isaiah 5

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

God was taking away from Jerusalem and Judah ‘support and supply’ (v1. Also, God in judgment was taking away was their leadership (v2-3). Instead the Lord will raise up children to lead, but this will not be a good thing (v4-5). There is a desperation among the people regarding leadership (v6) and it is something not all want (v7). Pray for good leadership in the church.

Isaiah highlights the sin that is bringing God’s judgment (v8-11). Their sin was against God and brazen (v8-9). Sin brings consequences (v10-11).

Isaiah returns to the theme of leadership (v12-15). Youths and women are mentioned in leadership and not in a positive way (v12). They have come to leadership because of the failure of adult men in leadership (v13-15).

The women of Jerusalem are singled out for how they live with a desire to draw undue attention on themselves (v16). In judgment the Lord will strike them and take away that which they take pride in (v17-24). God’s judgment means these women will not have supportive husbands (3v25, 4v1)

This section on judgment is followed by a section pointing to hope (4 v2-6). The branch of the Lord would be a beautiful and glorious descendant of King David (11 v1). This branch will bring good fruit (v2) and bring holiness and cleansing among God’s people (v3-4) and God will be their protection (v5-6).
