Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Job 1
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
We’re introduced to this great man Job who is described as righteous and blameless (v1). He has been greatly blessed by God in regards his family and wealth (v2-3). His love for family was shown in regular intercession (v4-5).
We come across this curious encounter between God and Satan (v6-7). God speaks highly of Job (v8) but Satan responds by accusing Job’s dedication as being dependent on God’s blessing (v9-10). Satan’s lays down a challenge (v11) which God takes up (v12).
There is a lot of mystery as to the reasons behind Job’s suffering. There are reasons beyond what God reveals here. Importantly, we see God’s sovereign control and how the devil could not lay a finger on Job without God’s permission. This is wonderfully reassuring for God’s children.
Terrible disasters come on Job. He loses all his many animals (v14-17) but worse of all, his sons and daughters are killed by a great wind (v18-19)
Job’s response is to mourn, which was to be expected, but amazingly he also worships (20-22). This speaks of his heart and his knowledge of God. Have you such a heart and a knowledge of God that will worship no matter what?
