Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Hosea 9

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

The northern kingdom of Israel going into exile is prophesied here (v1-3). Returning to Egypt was not a literal going back to this country but rather a returning to captivity which would be in Assyria. This was because they were unfaithful, acting like a whore in their idolatry. We need to remember that the Lord is jealous for the affections of His people that truly deserves.

The people’s worship because of their sin was not acceptable to the Lord (v4). We cannot expect that If we worship our idols through the week to then have the Lord pleased with us on the Sabbath as we worship.

One of the causes of judgment was that the people regarded God’s faithful prophet as a fool (v7). Even thought the prophet is appointed as a watchman by God (v8), he is hunted and hated by the rebellious people. How we regard those who faithfully bring us God’s word says a lot about the state of our hearts.

The mention of Gibeah (v9), points back to the terrible attack on a levite’s concubine and a resulting war (Judges 19-21). The people of God at times were fruitful (v10) but soon they corrupted themselves in sin. Is their sin in your life that is corrupting you and spoining your fruitfulness for the Lord? Pray about this.
