The Third Commandment requires us to treat God's name, character and Word with holy reverence, it forbids us from any thought, word or deed which shows a lack of respect towards the Lord our God.
Exodus 20 v7

Exodus 20:7

“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
