This oracle is particularly about exalting the city of Jerusalem and the house of David. This prophecy is Messianic pointing to how Christ would come from the house of David and through Jesus David’s family would be exalted.

The clans of Judah see that Jerusalem has particular strength from the Lord (v6). Jerusalem is being preserved and the house of David defended for God’s very special purposes in salvation to be fulfilled through them.

The house of David is told it shall be ‘like God’ (v8) which can only be fulfilled through the Son of David who would be born, being also the Son of God.

This doesn’t mean the people of Jerusalem would be perfect but they are being granted a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy as they look on the One they have pierced (v10; John 19 v37). Through this piercing of course a fountain for cleansing (13 v1). Hope is always only found in this Son of David.
