Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Mark 5
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
In Jairus we see a man with a great concern for his daughter, so he turned to Jesus (v22-23). He pleads with tremendous earnestness. Do you show a similar earnestness in speaking to Jesus about both the physical and spiritual needs of your family?
The danger is that we can be like the woman Jesus met in v25-26, who for many years suffered as she looked in the wrong places for help. She only turns to Christ as she is in absolute desperation. When she came in faith (v27-29) her need was wondrously met.
Have you maybe suffered much as you have been looking in the wrong places to have personal or family needs met? Look to Jesus first! Trust in Him fully!
Why did Jesus ask who touched Him (v30)? As the Son of God would He not have known anyway? Jesus wanted the woman to come forward in order to speak to her (v33). Jesus doesn’t just want to heal people; He wants a real relationship with them.
As you pray and read the Bible do you approach God seeing Him as just someone to meet your needs, or do you have a real desire for a deepening relationship with Him?
The news in verse 35 must have made Jairus despair, but the words of Christ (v36) encourage faith. The people who came to mourn (v38-39) were not helping but a barrier to faith. Jesus powerfully, yet gently restores Jairus’ daughter (v41-42). But notice His command not to tell others (v43). Again this is for the reason that Jesus didn’t want people to come to Him just to be entertained or just to have their needs met. Jesus wants people to come and have a sincere relationship.
