God expected Aaron and his sons to take responsibility for the sanctuary and its worship (v1). This included responsibility for any offences committed; they had to insure that all that was done here was done in a right way.  Today in the church the elders and minister have this great responsibility and you need to pray for wisdom as they oversee the life of the church.

The Levites were to help the priests and they were to be responsible to them (v2-4). There was also clear teaching that the Levites while helping were not to go near the furnishings of the tabernacle or they would die. In dealing with the things associated with God’s worship they were dealing with that which was holy and they needed a holy cautiousness (v5-7).

Alongside the great responsibility the priests and Levites had there was also great privilege in the provision they received (v8-19). They would receive no land of their own because their inheritance was the Lord (v20). God was to be the one who satisfied them.

There is a great challenge here to be faced by all believers today. If God is our inheritance are we satisfied in the Lord, is He our joy and delight?

The people were to tithe to the Lord’s work (v21-24) and even the Levites had to tithe what they received (v25-27). They were to give to the Lord the very best of what they received (v28-32).

God’s people are not only to give the Lord a fitting amount of their time and money, they are to give to the Lord their very best. Is that true of you? Remember what Jesus gave for us.
