Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Jeremiah 9
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
The Lord speaks of longing to shed fountains of tears and to weep day and night for two things (v1). the Lord weeps first for those who were slain (v1b) and second for the terrible sin of the people (v2-3).
Here is a real challenge for every believer. It is possible to be those who are not disturbed enough either by the judgment people face or by the sin they commit. Jesus wept over Jerusalem when He thought of the judgment the people would face. Do you weep for the lost and for those who’re facing God’s eternal wrath for their sin?
Jesus was greatly troubled by the sin that had polluted the temple and drove out the sinful practices. Against sin, this was no ‘Gentle Jesus meek and mild’. We need to despise sin and especially the sin inour own lives. Jesus taught that we needed to act violently against sin (Matt. 5 v29-30).
As we seek to know victory over sin we need to seek the company of the godly. Unfortunately in Jeremiah’s day there was such deception among the people (v4-9). Resolve to be a person of the truth, no matter what the consequences, share this truth with others and seek out regularly the company of those who delight in the truth of God’s Word.
