Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Matthew 6
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
One of the key principles of the Sermon on the Mount, is that our focus should be on heavenly matters rather than on earthly ones. Jesus says we should be seeking treasures in heaven instead of earthly treasure (v19-20). Jesus said one reason this should be our priority is that earthly treasures don’t last whereas heavenly ones will last forever. What we are seeking is also important because it sets the direction of our heart (v21). A real priority for Jesus is that our hearts are right and focused on God and on what is important to God.
Jesus highlights the importance of what we focus on (v22-23). He says that where we set our eyes, it will impact our own lives. If we are looking at that which brings spiritual light, our whole lives will be filled with that light. But on the other hand if we look on that which is spiritually dark, then that darkness will come into every area of our lives.
There is a real danger of being distracted and focusing on the wrong things such as money instead of on God (v24). Where is your focus, what do you think on? The growth and vibrancy of our Christian lives depends on focuses on the Lord in His word and not being deflected from this.
