Ephesians 2:18–22

18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,1 but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by2 the Spirit.

For Jews who viewed Gentiles as dogs, Gentiles being reconciled to God was a very radical idea. Paul though makes it clear that Gentile believers are not second class citizens. They equally have access to the Father through the Spirit leading them (v18), they are fellow citizens (v19a) and members of the same household of God (v19b).

We need to remember that within the family of God there are no second class citizens among those who believe. You need to make sure that there are no other Christians that you look down on. Paul says, ‘those parts of the body that we think less honourable we bestow the greater honour’ (1 Cor. 12 v23).

Paul has the vision here of the people of God as a great temple of worship indwelt by the Spirit to bring glory to God (v21-22). The foundation of this temple are the apostles and prophets with Christ as the chief cornerstone (v20). Christ rules and keeps His church secure through the word of God which was delivered through the apostles and prophets.

The church flourishes and brings Christ glory when each member lives their life in submission to God’s word. Are you seriously seeking to do this?
