Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Ezekiel 16

Here we have a powerful picture of the relationship between the Lord and the people of Jerusalem. She is pictured like a new born babe abandoned in a field and wallowing in its blood only for the Lord coming to insure life and to flourish (v4-7).

When Jerusalem was then ready for love the Lord covers her nakedness and takes her as His bride (v8). the Lord cleanses and adorns His bride with fine clothes and jewellery (v9-13). Her renown went out to all nations, probably pointing particularly to the glorious days of Solomon (v14).

But despite being so wonderfully blessed by the Lord the people of Jerusalem ‘played the whore’ (v15) and the Lord goes into great details as to what this entailed as they forgot the Lord’s goodness and worshipped the false gods of other nations (v15-58). They used the good gifts that the Lord had given them to engage in their idolatry and sinful living.

Amazingly, despite all their terrible faithlessness, the Lord is going to remember His covenant and be faithful to them (v59-63). The Lord will so work in their lives that they will be ashamed of their sin and have the Lord atone for that sin. Here we see the amazing love, goodness and faithfulness of God. This surely should inspire us to increased faithfulness.
