This Psalm deals with the two great lights God uses to make Himself known.

1. Creation (v1-6)

The world God made reveals His glory, His greatness, His worth (v1). Every day the world around is speaking to us of how wonderful God is (v2). People of all nations hear the voice of creation (v3-4) so all can know there is this great God to worship, love and obey.

The sun is pictured like a great bridegroom who advances across the sky. Undoubtedly David is likening the sun here to the great Son who would come one day to claim His bride the church.

1. The Law (v7-14)

The word ‘Law’ here translates the Hebrew word ‘torah’ which speaks of all the scriptures which existed at that time. David speaks of how God’s law is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, righteous, precious and sweet.

What David tells us about what God’s law produces is thrilling here. The law revives the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoicing the heart, enlightening the eyes, warns the servants, brings great reward and protects from sin.
