Jesus here combines teaching about the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 and His coming at the end of the world.

In regards to His return, Jesus does not give a timetable as He himself even didn’t know the time (v36). Jesus gives us signs which will happen to remind us that He is coming again and to encourage us to be ready.

These signs include wars (v6), famines and earthquakes (v7), persecution (v9), apostasy (v10), false prophets (v11), lawlessness increasing (v13), the Gospel going to the nations (v14) and signs in the sky (v29).

Although the time of Jesus’ return is not known, His coming again will be seen by all (v27, 30-31).

The challenge is for us to live with one eye on Jesus’ return so that we will not be ashamed (v43-44).

If you knew Jesus was returning tomorrow, how would that change how you live today? Live so that you will be ready and not embarrassed. The change need must start not tomorrow but now.
