The way the prophet Nathan confronts this sin of David by using this parable is very clever (v1-6). Sometimes we are to close to our sin to see the guilt of it and sometimes taking a step back and seeing it in the light of Biblical truth is needed for us to realise our guilt.

David anger is quickly turned on himself with Nathan’s famous words, “You are the man!” (v7) Is there sin in your life that needs exposed? Take a moment or two to pray about this.

The child conceived through David’s sinful relationship with Bathsheba becomes ill and then dies (v15-23). David’s action’s in first passionately interceding for the baby and then responding very calmly to his death surprised his officials (v21).

In David’s response (v22-23) we have great words of hope for God’s people who lose a child, “I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” (v23) David had the great hope of being re-united after death.

David and Bathsheba then receive God’s grace in having another son called Solomon (v24-25). This was truly grace as Jesus would come from his line. We have a God who despises sin intensely, but delights in grace even more passionately.
