Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org.
Please read 1 Kings 3.
Solomon seeks to faithfully follow the Lord although there is an issue of the high places (v3). The danger was that although Solomon worshipped the Lord at one of these high places, there was also the danger of idol worship.
Solomon at Gibeon meets with the Lord (v4-9) and asks for wisdom to rule (v9). This really pleased the Lord and therefore the Lord also promises great riches and honour as well as long life if he is obedient (v10-14). Solomon’s response was one of worship.
We will not have the mind of Solomon but wisdom is one thing the Lord promises to His people (James 1 v5). It is through the Word and the Spirit of God together filling our lives that gives us an understanding into this world, life and God far beyond what the world knows.
Solomon’s displays his God given wisdom in this story of the two prostitutes who each had a baby and one died (v16-28). In this story Solon saw how true loved displayed itself in a willingness to give up one’s own desires for the sake of another. Have you such a love?
