Ahab encourages Jehoshaphat to accompany him in a war against Syria to regain Ramoth-gilead (v1-4). Jehoshaphat asks for the prophets to be asked and four hundred false prophets prophesied that all would go well.

Micaiah, a true prophet is sent for and you can imagine he was under great pressure to conform (v8-9). He is labelled by Ahab as being just a prophesier of doom.

As God’s people if we are faithful to scripture we will get this negative label as well. When the world says all is okay, even for the saved, the Christian has to be faithful in warning of the future judgment on all unsaved.

Micaiah remains faithful in sharing how this battle will end with Ahab’s death and for his faithfulness he is struck and imprisoned under harsh conditions.

Ahab goes into the battle disguised in order to protect himself but there was no way for him to escape God’s will and judgment (v34-35). The only way any of us can escape God’s judgment is through fleeing to Christ.

The chapter ends with an account of two very different kings, Jehoshaphat (v41-50) and Ahaziah (v51-53). In both cases it was like father like son. This was true for both righteousness and sinfulness. Parents take note.
