In these laws about leprosy it is tested to see how deep the condition is (v1-4). The fact that it is a priest who checks if a person is clean or unclean (v5), speaks of a spiritual dimension to all this.

The leprous person has to remain outside the camp (v46). This was to protect the camp from this infectious disease. Today with Covid19 there is an element within Christianity which frowns upon steps to be careful and protect people as being unspiritual. Such people are out of step with the scripture here where God takes steps to protect His people.

The person considered unclean being outside the camp, also has an important spiritual dimension. Leprosy is linked to the cursing of this world and death, whereas the Lord who dwelt in the camp was all about life. Those who belong to the Lord are to be a people who lives are marked by life.

Sin like leprosy is something that can be very infectious and spread through the camp of God’s people. We need to be very careful to be realistic about the influence of our sin in the lives of others and the influence of others sin in our own lives.
