Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Joshua 16-17
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
In these chapters we have the division of the land for the sons of Joseph, the two tribes of Ephraim (16 v5-10) and Manasseh (17 v1-13).
Unusually we see provision for the daughters of Zelophehad (17 v3-4). This was very unusual for women to inherit at that times, but it speaks of the different but fair rules of the Lord.
One of the features of these chapters was the failure to take certain cities from the Canaanites (16 v10, 17 v12-13). This failure would be a lasting snare to God’s people as their presence and influence would lead God’s people into idolatry in the future.
We need to consider if there are areas of our lives where sin and evil has not been driven out? We need to consider also what negative influences are hold us back in going on with the Lord?
The tribes of Joseph come and complain about their allotment (17 v14-18). They particularly don’t like the terrain of the forested hill country and the presence of Canaanites on the plain with powerful chariots.
The response of Joshua is that they need to have faith in the Lord giving them this land. Too often we can be complaining instead of trusting in what the Lord is able to do. They need the spirit of Caleb (14 v6-15).
