Hezekiah is in total despair due to the Assyrian army at his door. He sends a message to the prophet Isaiah (v1-4) who assures him of deliverance and Sennacherib’s death (v5-7). Sennacherib then sends a letter to Hezekiah again warning him that no God can stand in his way (v8-13).

Here are two voices that Hezekiah is hearing, one encouraging faith and the other doubts. We need to be aware of and recognise these voices in our own lives and run to the voices that encourage faith.

Hezekiah brings the letter to the temple and lays it before the Lord (v14-19). This is what we too need to do with our troubles and concerns. Hezekiah’s prayer reveals the high view of God that he had (v15-19).

Isaiah again reassures Hezekiah, this time with a longer prophecy (v20-34). The battle between faith and doubts will be won by God’s truth.

 That night an angel kills 185,000 in Sennacherib’s army (v35) and soon Sennacherib is killed by his sons (v36-37). The God who couldn’t stop him, has now spoken loudly. Can you hear God’s voice?
