Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Luke 19
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Luke says of Jesus as he and his disciples approached Jerusalem that ‘he went on ahead’ (v28). Mark informs us that Jesus went in front with such determination that the disciples were frightened (Mark 10 v32). The Pharisees had given orders that if Jesus was seen He was to be arrested (John 11 v57). Jesus knew the danger that faced Him.
Jesus knew the Pharisees would have been familiar with the prophecy in Zechariah 9 v9 about the Messiah coming riding on a donkey, so in planning to come this way (v30-31), Jesus was laying down the gauntlet to them.
In this incident of sending the disciples to get this donkey and how it all worked out as Jesus planned (v30-34), we see that Jesus was here in total control of all the circumstances.
When we are called to take a stand for Christ and fear what the consequences we need to remember that Jesus is in total control of all that may happen. All the circumstances are in His sovereign hands.
The control of Jesus is also seen in easily riding an unridden colt through a noisy crowd. Nothing, no action and no reaction to anything that we do for Christ, is outside His loving, wise and total control. Pray about this.
