Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Psalm 89
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
This great Psalm focuses on the faithfulness of God (v1-3) which is particularly revealed in His covenant, whereby God commits Himself in promises to David (v3-4). There is this wonderful promise that David’s offspring will rule forever.
Wonderfully, not only is the Lord faithful, He is also mighty, awesome and without any equal, so that He can keep His promises (v6-18). Rahab who was crushed (v10) is a nickname for Egypt. Tabor and Hermon (v12) who join in praise are great mountains.
There are wonderful promises regarding giving victory to David and his descendants and continuing to be faithful so as to establish their rule forever (v19-29). The problem though was the sin of David’s descendants (v30-33). Despite this the Lord will not remove from David His love and promises (v30-37).
The Lord is faithful but the Psalmist here sees the people of Israel including David’s descendants rejected and suffering (v38-52). This apparent rejection has happened justly because of their sin, but wonderfully God would not be finished with His covenant, in grace a perfect son of David would come who would be faithful and rule forever.
