Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Judges 6
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Again, the Lord brings in an oppressor to punish His unfaithful people (v1-6). As the Lord has many strings in His bow to deliver His people, He also has many strings in His bow to discipline His wayward people.
When the people cry out to the Lord the people are reminded of God’s goodness and their responsibility to fear the One true god alone (v7-10). How quickly we can forget both the Lord’s goodness and his warnings.
Gideon is called to be the Lord’s warrior to lead the people of Israel to victory and salvation (v11-16). Gideon asks for the privilege of offering hospitality to angel of the Lord (v17-23) and discovers who He is dealing with. The angel of the Lord is the Son of God come in the form of an angel.
In preparation for greater work Gideon is to start by removing the altar to false gods at home (v25-27). In becoming a mighty warrior for the Lord, Gideon had to start at home. He is a reluctant hero, which is seen in his first exploit being done at night. But the Lord is patient with his reticence and encourages him so that he can become the man that God intends (v36-40).
