The city walls are now dedicated and it was to be a joyful celebration (v27). There was singing by two large choirs who were accompanied with musical instruments (v27-31). The priests and Levites began by first purifying themselves (v30). In the service and worship of God we need holiness.

The two choirs proceeded along the walls in opposite directions, each followed by half the people and then they all assembled at the temple were great sacrifices were made (v31-43). Worship has to have the cross central.

The musical instruments to be used (v27, 35-36; 1 Chron. 15 v16, 28; 16 v5-6; 2 Chron. 29 v26-27). It was not a free for all and only certain instruments were deemed to be suitable to accompany praise.

The final part of the chapter speaks of the ministers being provided for (v44-47). The tithe was used to let those who lead in worship concentrate on this important task. There is the principle established here of the church making sure that all those who lead in teaching and worship are adequately supported in the work they do.
