Acts 2:42–47

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe1 came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

(ESV)

Now that over 3,000 have been saved what happens next? We see how they were devoted to the apostle’s teaching, fellowship with God’s people, to remembering Jesus’ death in communion and united prayer (v42). This was the foundation of church life and it must be the same for the church today. Are you devoted to these four things as you should be? Pray about this.

These were great days, awe and miracles abounded (v43). There was a wonderful love among God’s people (v44-45).

The believers met daily, they couldn’t get enough of teaching, prayer, communion and fellowship (v46). This was a church on fire. God was praised, people took note and many more were saved (v47).

Pentecost was a one off event with the coming of the Spirit upon the church. But God has not changed and wonderful days of blessing; as we read of here, God has been pleased to pour out on the church again and again in days of Revival. Pray for this to happen today in our church and community!
