Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read 1 Samuel 19
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Saul’s jealousy continues and he plots to kill David (v1). Jonathan seeks to intervene first by warning David (v2-3) and then by speaking for David (v4-5).
Among God’s people the devil will always seek to create division. Foolish and unkind words can terribly increase division while wise and kind words can help heal. Be careful when you speak to others and about others. Speak with love and kindness even when this is not what people want to hear. Do no be involved in circles of critical gossip.
Saul has a change of attitude towards David (v6) and Jonathan brings David back within the fold of God’s people (v7) and a vital part of the army again (v8). Within the church we need people like Jonathan who always desire reconciliation where relations have been damaged.
We must remember that the cause of Christ is greatly damaged by division among God’s people. It is such a waste when believers who should be united in fighting against the kingdom of Satan end up in conflict with each other.
