Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read 1 Samuel 20

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

In the morning after the feast, Jonathan with a boy to carry his arrows goes to the place agreed with David. Jonathan goes through the pre-arranged routine to show that Saul’s hostility means that David has to leave (v35-40).

David and Jonathan then meet and their brotherly love is so evident (v41). The fact that they would be separated was tearing them apart. Among God’s people there should be a strong love and devotion which causes us to want to meet together and to support one another. This should be a love which is Christ like and that hates division (see John 17 v20-23).

The secret to David and Jonathan’s love was the Lord who was between them (v42). They were united to each other through being united to the Lord.

The closer our relationship and walk with God the closer will our relationship be with other believers. Likewise the further we are from God the further will be our re ationship with other believers. Does your relationship with God make you close to His people? Pray about this.

The love of Jonathan and David extended to the next generation (v42). With’n the church we should have a special love and care for covenant children. We should teach them, pray for them and be an example to them.
