We have a great example here of Biblical praying. The Levites in their praying led the people to consider the greatness of God whose name is glorious (v5).

The prayer begins with a focus on God’s acts of creation and providence (v6). What is listed is to encourage faith and worship. The next focus is on the covenant with Abraham (v7-8). God faithfully keeps His promises.

Next the Levites speaks to God about the exodus from Egypt (v9-12), giving the Ten Commandments (v13), particularly regarding the Sabbath (v14) and the wonderful provision during the time in the wilderness (v15).

We see here that Biblical prayer has at its heart speaking to God about God and about what he does. The focus of prayer should begin with God.

The Levites then confess the sin of the people and God’s gracious and merciful faithfulness to them (v16-21). As they pray the Levites are filled with a great sense of God’s love and goodness. This God they knew should be obey, trusted and worshipped because of who He is and what he does.
