Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read 2 Chronicles 18
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
This is a curious chapter as Jehoshaphat, who had been a faithful king to the southern kingdom of Judah, now enters in an unholy alliance with Ahab the wicked king of the northern kingdom of Israel (v1-3).
Wisely Jehoshaphat seeks the guidance of a true prophet before going into battle with Ahab (v4-11). Jehoshaphat is discerning enough o see through the lies of the false prophets, who basically shared just what people wanted to hear. Wisely they call for Micaiah a faithful prophet (v14-22), who faithfully warns of the disaster ahead. Micaiah is faithful to the truth even when it is unpopular and even when he suffers as a consequence (v23-27). He words are shown to be true and Ahab will not return from battle alive.
We need to be careful not to be like Ahab and just want preachers who say what we want to hear. Neither should be be like Jehoshaphat, who when he heard the truth, did not change the direction that he was going in. In life, prize, trust and obey the truth of God’s word. Let the perfect scriptures which come from the perfect Lord, be your only rule of faith and practice in life. A fool goes his own way, a wise man listens and goes the Lord’s way.
