Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read 1 Chronicles 3-4

One of the purposes of the genealogies is to highlight God’s faithfulness to His people over many generations. In the case of David, God was faithful to a man who was certainly no example when it came to marriage faithfulness (v1-9). He was a man who had a great weakness here.

The family line through Solomon draws attention to the kings of Judah (v10-24). Zerubbabel was in this line, a man who would be greatly used in bringing back the exiles and restoring Jerusalem (v19). He never would be called king, just governor, but was a rightful king.

Chapter 4 begins a focus on the different tribes of Israel, beginning with Judah (v1-23), not the first-born of Israel, but the most prominent tribe from whom the Saviour would come.

Jabez is highlighted as honourable (v9) and his prayer (v10) has become famous. This was a man who asked big things from God and God delivered. In our lives, in our churches, we should desire to move forward.

Shimei was very fruitful (v27), but his brothers were not and therefore Simeon did not grow as a tribe as Judah did. This highlights how the progress of a church needs not just a few but many believers living fruitful lives. How is your life, as fruitful spiritually as God desires?
