Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Luke 18
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Jesus shares truth with His people (v31-34) that He doesn’t share to others (v31a; John 15 v13-15). Those who are saved are given particular insight into Jesus’ death. They know it is a willing death (v31a); it was Jesus’ free choice.
Jesus’ death was also a planned death (v31b), “everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.” Ever since the fall of Adam the promise of God’s salvation was bit by bit revealed (see Genesis 3 v15). Jesus knew His life and death were about the fulfilment of God’s great plan (John 17 v4; 19 v30).
Jesus’ death was a shameful death (v32). Jesus would be terribly mocked and made fun off by the religious leaders and the Roman soldiers. Then He was most likely crucified naked.
Jesus’ death was victorious (v33). Jesus’ resurrection proves He has won the victory of sin, death and Satan. It proves the price has been paid in full.
The final thing we see here about Jesus’ death was that it was a hidden death (v34). The greatest hindrance to understanding the cross is people’s blindness to their sin and their need of salvation (Luke 5 v30-32).
