Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Luke 21
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
The Jerusalem temple was an amazing sight and the disciples were very impressed (v5). Jesus though teaches how the outward trappings of religion are not the most important thing, for one day they will disappear (v6). Jesus is speaking here of the destruction of the temple which would happen about 40 years later in A.D.70.
Jesus then combines teaching about the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world when Jesus would come again.
Jesus warns of how the end times will be marked by false teachers (v8), wars (v9-10), natural signs (v11) and persecution (v12). Jesus speaks of these days, not to frighten His disciples but to assure them that when they happen He will be with them to help them witness (v13-19).
Following Christ will mean facing many difficult days, there is a price to be paid. But in following Christ, we have one walking with us who is in control and who will strengthen His people as they travel to glory. What is crucial in persevering are not the outward trappings of religion, but a heart being daily transformed in a personal relationship with Christ.
