Day 23 – Please read Genesis 24
Rebekah and then her family must have been overwhelmed by this sudden intervention from a stranger. He was seeking to take Rebekah to a strange land hundreds of miles away for her never to see her family again in this world. They needed to be convinced that it was God’s will. So the servant shares the story about Isaac, Abraham’s desire and how God had led him so wonderfully (v34-49).
The key message here is that God’s hand is on all of this, this is God’s will and Rebekah and her family need to be open to this. There would be undoubtedly concerns and even sadness in their minds at the thought of never seeing their daughter again but the most important thing is their response, “This is from the Lord” (v50).
When it comes to the big decisions of life what is most important is not our personal feelings and desires but knowing the will of God. For Rebekah this was a big step of faith and it shows both in her and her family great trust in the Lord.
How would you faith have been in this situation? Pray about this!
