The distribution of the plunder is divided half among the soldiers and half among the rest of the people (v25-27). There seems a great fairness in this in that those who carried the load got the biggest benefit, while the rest of the community benefitted also.

This principle is still true in Christian service today. When people are involved in the Lord’s work the whole community benefits from it, but those who benefit most are those who gave the most (see 2 Timothy 2 v6).

Among those who benefit there is variation in what has to be given as a tribute to the Lord (v28-30). Those who were involve dint he battle would give one five hundredth of their share while those not involved will give one fiftieth of their share. This shows that when people are not involved in the frontline of the battle there are other ways in which they need to give. Every one of God’s people have an important part to play.

The plunder taken and tribute given was very significant (v32-47). Some of the articles of plunder were brought to the sanctuary (v48-54) which was a reminder that all the good that God’s people receive comes from God’s hand and we must be filled with thankfulness.
