The Feast of the Tabernacles (also called the Feast of Booths) was a time when the people of Israel would camp out in tents to remember the days in the wilderness. For children, this must have been great fun and a very effective way to remember what God has done in the past. The people were to remember the faithfulness and patience of God, towards a constantly disobedient people. Take time to consider how patient God is with you?

Additional offerings were made for eight days. Each day two rams, fourteen male lambs and a goat were to be presented alongside flour, grain and drink offerings. The curious thing is that bulls were to be sacrificed each day, starting with thirteen on day one (v13) and gradually decreasing down to seven on day seven (v32). Then on day eight, one bull was sacrificed (v36). This appears almost like a countdown, until they reach one bull. It appears to be seeking to get across, that while there are all these animals sacrificed, in the end there will be one sacrifice for sin.

All of the Old Testament and particularly the sacrifices point forward to Jesus. Jesus is the centre of Christianity and He has to be the centre and goal of our lives and our worship. In our private worship but also importantly in our public worship we need to have our main focus on Jesus.
