Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Deuteronomy 25

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

As the various laws for Israel’s life continues, justice is to be proportionate and not excessive (v1-3). Even animals were to be treated fairly and with kindness (v4). Christianity should affect every area of our lives.

This next law (v5-10) was for the protection of widows and the preservation of the family name of the deceased. Our great concern is for our church family’s children to be brought up as children of God, so that generation after generation of godly children will rise up for the honour of Christ and the preserving of the church. we must not just be taken up with our own family but the families of our fellow believers.

Among God’s people there needs to be a modesty and a reservedness that is appropriate for God’s people (v11-12). We are not to follow the open casualness of the world in dealing with intimate matters.

In our dealings as people of God there must be honesty and integrity (v13-16). The world out there should know that because we’re Christians we’re people who can therefore be trusted.

The chapter ends with a commandment to exercise judgment on the Amalekites (v17-19). This again remind sus of God’s justice and also the great passion with which He cares for His people.
