Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Proverbs 24
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
There is a real danger that people see the pleasure of the wicked, envy them and seek to emulate them (v1-2, 19-20). The ultimate antidote to such wrong attraction is realising the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out (v20), they will face judgment.
Instead of pursuing evil we’re encouraged to seek after wisdom from the Lord (v3-7). Wisdom builds up a home, it establishes it so it is secure (v3). True knowledge fills the home with richness (v4), which may be literal are more likely the richness of a family walking with the Lord.
Wisdom makes person strong, God’s truth empowers the recipient (v5). Wisdom enables the wise waging of a war and brings victory (v6). Note that while this wisdom comes from God it is often delivered through many counsellors (v6). We’re not meant to be an island, living and acting by self.
One problem with wisdom is that while it is readily available, often it is not wanted or received (v7). We don’t like to think of ourselves as fools, but we all are to some extent. The answer to being a fool is to receive what wisdom we can and in doing us we will be better equipped to receive more wisdom.
