Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Proverbs 23

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

What our heart is set on is important because if it is set on the wrong thing we can be trapped. There is a warning here of being so in awe of being in a king’s presence and the things he offers that a person can be trapped (v1-3). Likewise, a stingy man who suddenly becomes generous is seeking to entrap (v6-8). But we don’t need others to entrap us as our own desires can focus on things that will never satisfy or meet our needs like wealth (v4-5).

In a world of many snares, there is a prolonged appeal here from a father to a son (v15-35). In this tender message the danger of envying sinners (v17-18), mixing with drunkards (v19-21), of being trapped by a prostitute (v26-28) or by wine (v29-35) are highlighted.

What are you in danger of being trapped by or are already? What has your affections more than Christ?

Verses v22-25 express the longing of a father and more to find joy in their children’s wise living. How much more does our heavenly Father long for such pleasure in us?
