Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Genesis 33
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Jacob now approaches his brother with caution and great humility (v1-3). If he had acted like this twenty years earlier, much pain would have been avoided. But even now God was overruling.
When Jacob feared the worse, Esau responded with love (v4-11). The two brothers have grown up and each act with graciousness and thoughtfulness. They are beginning to see what is more important in life than possessions.
Why does Jacob not allow Esau to accompany him (v12-17)? Did he not trust him? Did he realise space was needed from a godless brother?
Jacob buys a plot of land (v18-19) and builds an alter (v20). Jacob remembers the Lord’s faithfulness. The name means ‘mighty is the God of Israel’.
In our Christian lives our praying shouldn’t be just when we are in need. In a living and fulfilling relationship with the Lord we will long for His presence to express our praise and thanksgiving as well as our requests. Do you enjoy God’s presence? Do you long to talk to, to praise and thank God?
