Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Genesis 15

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

Abram had been in a very dangerous situation. God in his mercy comes and reassures him of God’s protection (v1). Here is a wonderfully tender God.

Abram is concerned about not having a descendant (v2-3). God again reassures (v4-5). God uses the stars as a sign (v5).

Abram believes and is credited as righteousness (v6). Paul uses the example of Abraham to emphasise how it is through faith that we become justified, right in God’s sight (see Romans 4 v1-5).

Then God reassures by reminding Abraham of how he has brought him so far (v7). Remembrance of past grace will greatly encourage God’s people in faith.

God now goes further and uses this sacrifice to confirm His promises (v8-21). This reminds us that the way God confirms His promises is through the covenant of His blood (see 1 Corinthians 11 v25).

How can Jesus reassure us more and be devoted anymore to us than through His shed blood? The cross shows the commitment of God to His people.
