There has been a reoccurring theme in the account of the flood of God’s care for His people. This continues in the provisions that God gives for Noah and his family as they leave the ark.

God’s hand of blessing is announced for the people’s fruitfulness (v1). God places a fear on animals to protect people (v2).

God now gives permission for the animals to be eaten for food (v3).

There is an introduction of capital punishment for murder in order to protect life as well (v5-6).

God then promises that the world will never again will be destroyed by a flood (v8-11) and the rainbow is given as a sign to confirm this (v12-17).

God gives signs to reassure and strengthen faith. God knows His people are often fearful and He loves to reassure.
