The work of building the temple had stopped for a period of time, but then through the prophets Haggai and Zechariah God’s word comes to stir up Zerubbabel and the people to recommence the building work (v1-2).

Is there something you have stopped doing for the Lord which He wants you to recommence again? Pray about this.

A local governor called Tattenai comes and enquires as to what the people are doing and writes concerning the matter to King Darius, but in the meantime the work continues (v3-5).

Tattenai’s letter is very fair and includes the testimony of the temple builders (v11-16). They’re honest about their previous sin and testify how they’re acting on God’s man.

Do those around you see clearly that you’re a person living out your life according to God’s commands to do His will? Do your actions and words clearly testify to this?
