Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Ezra 6

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

King Darius (a different Darius from Daniel 6) has to respond to the enquiry from his governor Tattenai about allowing the rebuilding of the temple to continue. Darius investigates the matter thoroughly and not only makes a decree for the work to continue, order that all the needed resources be paid for (v8-10), he also goes further and orders the death of anyone who who would oppose this building of the temple (v11-12).

This is an amazing response from this pagan king and this shows clearly how the hand of God was engaged in this whole matter, ruling and directing according to His will and for the good of His people.

It is interesting how Ezra describes the work prospered (v13-15). There were the favourable circumstances created by King Darius’ decree (v13), but there was also the influence and power from the prophesying of Haggai and Zechariah (v14). God’s providence and God’s word enabled and empowered the building of the temple. Similarly today we need God’s providence and God’s word to enable and empower us to serve.

The completion of the temple (v150, it’s dedication (v16-18) and the Passover that followed (v19-22) brought great joy and celebration. May we pray and labour for similar joy in restored worship in the temple of our bodies.
