Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Genesis 39
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
In contrast to Judah, Joseph was a very righteous man. Joseph ends up in the home of Potiphar the captain of Pharaoh’s guard in Egypt (v1).
Instead of feeling sorry for himself, Joseph wonderfully continues to act with integrity with God’s strength (v2). Potiphar can trust Joseph fully and puts all he owns under his care (v3-6).
Here is a great challenge for all of God’s people today. In our daily dealings in our homes, in our workplaces and in our church, are you a person of such integrity and faithfulness like what Joseph displayed? Pray about this.
The devil never likes it when God’s people are faithful and lays terrible traps. For Joseph the trap came in the form of Potiphar’s wife who sought to seduce Joseph (v7-10). In responding to her Joseph highlights what a terrible action this would be against Potiphar. One restraint against sin is to consider the consequences on others. Sadly in cases of adultery men and women fail to consider the impact on their husbands, wives, children and many others.
Ultimately Joseph is restrained by seeing any such action as a terrible sin before God (v10). Sin is a very personal affront to God.
When temptation comes Joseph shows us that the best action is not to wait or think, but to run (v11-12). Pray that you will not fall into temptation.
