Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Deuteronomy 33
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
The blessing here from Moses is very similar to the one given by Jacob to his sons (Genesis 49). The Lord being described as coming from ‘the ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand’ (v2), brings across something of God’s majesty and glory. This is very fitting for the One who is the rightful King of Israel (v5). God is King as His words comes and rules in people’s lives.
As the different tribes receive a blessing the tribes of Levi (v8-11) and Joseph (v13-17). The focus on Levi is understandable given that they would be the priestly tribe responsible for worship and teaching God’s people.
The focus on Joseph probably goes back to him being Jacob’s favourite and being used wonderfully in God’s providence in sparing His people. The focus on the greater blessing to be received highlights the greater responsibility.
The blessing ends by focusing on God’s greatness (v26-27) and Israel’s blessing as His people. Take time to read over and pray about these verses.
