Daily Bible Reading Friday 25th June 2021
Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org.
Please read Exodus 16.
For the children of Israel it is now 1 ½ months since they left Egypt. They are in a very inhospitable place in the wilderness of sin (v1). The people quickly revert back to grumbling and even speak of wishing they had not been delivered (v2-3).
We need to understand that the Christian life can be very difficult and we must be prepared for this. Sometimes even our old life before salvation may appear more attractive and this is when faith and closeness to Christ is so important. Sadly the Israelites had lost sight of God’s goodness and power.
The Lord is very gracious and responds to Moses’ prayer by promising bread from heaven (v4). In fact God delivers birds called quails in the evening and bread called manna in the morning (v8, 13-18).
As the message is delivered about the Lord’s provision for His people He reveals something of His glory (v10-12). God wants people not just to accept His kind gifts but to truly value the giver.
The people are asked to trust the Lord day by day (v19-20). God wants an ongoing and daily dependence on Him. Have you this daily dependence?
