Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read 2 Peter 3
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Peter has warned about the danger of false teachers and the ungodly in chapter 2, but now he shows that this should not surprise us as this has been prophesied for the last days before Jesus returns (v1-3).
One thing they mock at is the message of Jesus’ return (v4). Maybe there is not a lot of mocking about this today as we don’t speak of it enough.
Those who mock about Jesus’ return Peter says forget that the God who will do this is the same God who made this world and sent the flood to destroy mankind before (v5-7). He speaks of how God’s timing is very different from ours (v8). There is a wonderful patience with God and a perfect timing to accomplish all that He desires in salvation (v9).
This patience of the Lord should not be taken as weakness or casualness towards sin, because God’s judgment will come (v10).
How Peter applies this truth of judgment is very interesting (v11-14). The judgment to come and the reality of the new heavens and earth should encourage in us a life of godliness.
The fact that sin will be judged and that a world of perfection will endure forever, should make us serious about repenting of all sin and seeking a life of perfection. Not that we will reach it in this life, but towards this we strive.
