Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Ezekiel 26

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

Tyre was the capital of Phoenicia (modern day Lebanon). The city saw the destruction of Jerusalem as an opportunity for it to advance as it was a great commercial centre (v1-2). As we have seen in the previous chapter, having joy at the destruction of God’s people is never a wise thing.

The Lord promises that Tyre will be attacked and defeated by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon (v3-7), who is even described here as ‘the king of kings’ (v7). The force coming against Tyre will be immense and the destruction of the city, people, and of their joyful way of life is described in great detail.  Tyre was built on a great rocky headland and this rock will be so cleared that it will only be useful for drying fishnets (v14).

The chapter warns of the danger and consequence of living for and putting our trust in the possessions and pleasures of this world. What comes into our lives from the world can disappear in moment, and then what will we be left with?

An intriguing thing about what will happen to Tyre, is that its purpose is that the people will realise that the Lord (Yahweh) is the true God. If people do not come to know the Lord through the grace of Christ, they will certainly realise who He is at the final judgment. We need to seek the Lord now!
